Schedule: 35 Hours a week; 11-month employment cycle August to July

Pay Range/ Status: $19.00 Hour/Non-Exempt

Location: Hampshire College Campus in Amherst, MA

Reports to: Director of the Early Learning Center

Anticipated Start Date: August 5, 2023

DESCRIPTION OF RESPONSIBILITIES:

Reporting to the director of the early learning center (ELC), the office assistant will perform a variety of duties in support of the Early Learning Center (ELC). These responsibilities include organizing and distributing paperwork to current and prospective families, processing monthly tuition billing, maintaining child and staff files, managing student worker schedules, and ordering and managing classroom and building supplies. Additionally, the office assistant will support the early learning center classrooms by facilitating communication between teachers, families, and administration. They may assist teachers in organizing educational materials, preparing classroom activities, and maintaining a nurturing and engaging learning environment for young children. Furthermore, they might collaborate with educators to ensure compliance with curriculum standards and assist in documenting children's progress and development. Act as a daily substitute teacher, supporting classrooms. Enrich and support infant, toddler, or preschool groups aligned with the center's Mission and Vision. Collaborate with co-teachers, center director, families, and college work-study students. Support classroom routines, enhance children's interests, and develop projects. Adhere to EEC guidelines for safety, environment, documentation, and interactions. Foster children's independence, social reliance, and growth while ensuring safety. Maintain ongoing observations and reflections on children's development.

As a member of the ELC team, this position is essential to student and community service and experience. The incumbent must feel comfortable working in an often fast-paced organizational framework with shifting and evolving responsibilities. This position collaborates with other ELC staff, and a variety of other College stakeholders to meet the department goals, and further the mission of the department and the College. This position participates as a committed member of the ELC team in college committee work, projects, meetings, events, and overall community development. Availability to work occasional nights and weekends may be required.

REQUIRED SKILLS:

Required:

  • Proficient on a computer; familiar with software programs such as Microsoft Word, Excel, the Adobe suite, etc.;

  • Must be well-organized, detail-oriented and able to multitask;

  • Must have effective problem solving abilities;

  • Must have excellent verbal and written communication skills;

  • Must be highly motivated and energetic;

  • Must demonstrate judgment, problem solving and resourcefulness;

  • Must be able to handle confidential matters;

  • Offer of employment will be contingent upon a successful background check, which will include a criminal record investigation;

Preferred:

  • EEC Certification;

  • Previous experience working with young children.

REQUIRED CERTIFICATION, EDUCATION, AND EXPERIENCE:

  • Four-year college degree or equivalent

  • One year of job-related experience

Alternatives to formal education and paid work experience may be considered as equivalent qualifications to include military service/training, volunteering, activism, and other non-traditional programs and experiences related to the position.
