State of Massachusetts TeleSANE Educator in Boston, Massachusetts

The Massachusetts Department of Public Health’s Sexual Assault Nurse Examiner (SANE) Program is a national leader and innovator in providing trauma-informed, forensic nursing care to sexual assault patients through its in-person SANE and Pediatric SANE Programs, and its pioneering TeleSANE program. The MA SANE Program acknowledges the history of structural racism in the U.S. and its impact on health outcomes, as well as sexual violence. We are committed to improving the quality of life for all Commonwealth residents while eliminating the inequities that threaten the lives of communities of color who are disproportionately affected by sexual violence. The Program seeks a dedicated and dynamic individual to join the MA SANE Education Team as the TeleSANE Educator. This position is responsible for the training and on-going education of TeleSANEs, and training and on-going education for groups of Remote Site Clinicians and emergency department providers at DPH-designated remote hospitals receiving TeleSANE consultation. Trainings are conducted in-person and through a hybrid model that utilize the Program’s Learning Management System (LMS). This position works in close collaboration with the TeleSANE Associate Director to develop materials and strategies for identified outreach and education related to TeleSANE services on statewide level, as well as other TeleSANE projects. This position works in close collaboration with the SANE Program’s Adult/Adolescent Educator (SANE III) to ensure synergy and consistency between in-person SANE and TeleSANE clinical practice, and to develop training content and materials that support quality educational experiences for all trainees, are inclusive and developed through a racial equity lens. This position participates in and provides leadership for other program initiatives including advances in forensic nursing science and scholarship. _Duties and Responsibilities (these duties are a general summary and are not all inclusive):_ * Oversee education and training for the TeleSANE arm of the program, including development of MA Training Curriculum for TeleSANEs and Remote Site Clinicians, and make appropriate updates to ensure alignment with MA SANE/TeleSANE Protocol changes and operational/service delivery advancements. * Coordinate and conduct initial and ongoing training for TeleSANEs, as well as initial and ongoing training for Remote Site Clinicians and Providers at hospitals receiving TeleSANE services, and community Rape Crisis Centers. * Complete and submit applications for nursing/physician continuing education credits for educational offerings/trainings* and develop tools to evaluate the effectiveness of trainings. * Collaborate with Remote Site Clinical Liaisons, TeleSANE Coordinator and TeleSANE Associate Director to determine learning needs of remote site clinicians, providers, and develop responsive education/training materials. * Ensure that education materials and training initiatives are inclusive and reflect the diversity and needs of SANE/TeleSANE patients, and that teaching methods accommodate diverse learning styles. * Collaborate with the TeleSANE Associate Director regarding quality monitoring tool development, implementation, and outcomes, and develop plans for education-based on outcomes. * Work in close collaboration with the SANE Administrative Training Coordinator to maximize the SANE Program Learning Management System’s capacity to create quality educational programming for SANEs, TeleSANEs, hospitals, Rape Crisis Centers and other multi-disciplinary response partners. * Collaborate with TeleSANE Coordinator and Associate Director in the development of outreach materials and strategies related to TeleSANE services/care. * Collaborate with Pediatric SANE Clinical Coordinator for educational opportunities regarding the care of adolescents and children. * Participate in combined Education/SANE Leadership meetings, and contributes to overall SANE Program educational vision, prioritization, and planning. * Collaborate with other Education Team and TeleSANE Team members to respond to dynamic and fluid situations that require innovation and creativity. * As the individual responsible for training and educating contracted and/or staff TeleSANEs, this position is expected to regularly provide TeleSANE coverage (% of time to be determined in collaboration with supervisor). * Identify opportunities to advance TeleSANE practice through quality monitoring and research. * Further develop and strengthen TeleSANE practice through research and publications. * _Required Qualifications:_ * Experience and expertise in the role of Sexual Assault Nurse Examiner. * Knowledge of Adult/Adolescent SANE Protocols. * Demonstrated flexibility and ability to re-prioritize based on program needs. _Preferred Qualifications:_ * Prior experience as a TeleSANE or providing telehealth consultation. * Experience in educating nurses, mid-level providers, physicians and affiliated health professionals, and demonstrated knowledgeable regarding the principles of Adult Learning. * Experience with Learning Management Systems and providing on-line and hybrid models of training and education. * Expert SANE and educator with demonstrated effectiveness in delivery quality clinical training/education. * Highly proficient with Microsoft Office including Outlook, Word, and PowerPoint. * Excellent verbal and written communication skills with attention to detail. * Comfort with public speaking in small and large venues. * Ability to multi-task and shift priorities and pivot direction as needed. * Ability to think critically, analyze, and determine the applicability of data, draw conclusions and make appropriate recommendations. * Experience with the principles of racial justice, health equity and the social determinants of health and the application of these principles to public health practice desired. * Experience in the area of sexual/interpersonal violence, trauma, women’s health and social justice preferred. *About the Department of Public Health:* The mission of the Massachusetts Department of Public Health (DPH) is to prevent illness, injury, and premature death, to assure access to high quality public health and health care services, and to promote wellness and health equity for all people in the Commonwealth. Minimum Entrance Requirements 1. Current and valid licensure as a professional nurse under the MA Board of Registration in Nursing (BORN). * 2. A minimum of 4 years of experience as a Registered Nurse preferably in Emergency Nursing, Women’s Health Nursing or Critical Care Nursing. * 3. A minimum of 2 years of experience as a certified MA Adult/Adolescent SANE or have 2 years of experience as a SANE in another state in good standing. Applicants trained in another state must obtain MA SANE Certification within 9 months of hire. * 4. Applicants must have a Bachelor’s Degree in Nursing (BSN) or a Bachelor’s Degree in a related area of practice (e.g. health education, psychology, social work). * 5. Incumbents must maintain current and valid MDPH SANE certification. Prior experience in educating nurses, mid-level providers, physicians and affiliated health professionals, and demonstrated knowledge regarding adult learning methods. * 6.
